Amber Pins

Amber pins and brooches are one of the oldest types of amber jewelry. They are made of amber, which is a yellow, sometimes reddish or brownish, fossil resin of organic origin. Amber is a translucent brittle material used for making beautiful jewelry or other ornamental objects. The origins of amber date back to about 45 million years ago and it is assumed that first amber jewelry pieces were made as early as in Stone Age.

Amber pins / brooches played both functional and decorative role. Early brooches / pins were created to hold clothes together but later became mainly a fashion accessory. There were several distinct types of brooches, not only in design, but in the fastening mechanism. The most popular and best known was the ‘safety pin’ form. The fastening mechanism is usually made from silver or gold and the most popular amber colors are: cognac, green, cherry, honey and milky.
